Concert Band and Big Band

The University Concert Band is a reasonably large wind band with a wide repertoire including symphonic wind band, pop and musical arrangements.

The Big Band is a traditional Big Band consisting of sax, trombone, trumpet and rhythm sections. They mainly play jazz and swing arrangements and there's plenty of space for improvised solos if that's your thing!

Though the two are separate bands, they generally rehearse and  perform one after the other as the majority of the musicians belong to both. The exceptions to this are the flutes and clarinets, many of whom watch the big band and join us in the pub afterwards, or just get straight in there for a head start! Traditionally one of the more sociable groups, it's great fun to perform in or to watch.

Conductor: Ian Swatman
